Cebu-based furniture designer and manufacturer, Kenneth Cobonpue, is known around the world for his unique designs. Several of his designs were selected for several editions of the International Design Yearbook published in London and New York. Phaidon’s book entitled ‘& FORK’ underscores Kenneth’s position as a leader of a new movement incorporating new technologies with crafts. In 2007, TIME magazine called him ‘rattan’s first grand virtuoso’.
His design concepts are inspired by plants and other living things which he captures into his furniture design. Kenneth discovered that by the use of natural fibers and materials as a medium, modern design could have a new face. His mastery of techniques was challenged by the abundance of the country’s raw materials and skilled craftsmen. He slowly started creating new pieces from that idea, thus forming the collection today. From that he launched a revolution to the Western definition of modern design.
